Workshop on photography
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: A two-
Amatuar photagraphers and enthusiastic persons from various fields attended the workshop.
Resource persons from Delhi School of Photograpy (DSP) Bikash Das, who is the Dean of the School and his partner Deepak Virmani imparted training on landscape, portrait and the basics of photography to the trainees.
The trainees were also given practical training on photography by taking them to various places within Itanagar township. The presence of up coming models Subi Taba and Licha Pera added more glamourous to the workshop. The workshop was initiated by Halley Welly, Deputy Director UD, who is presently posted at Daporijo.
The workshop was successful as it opened the windows for the amateur vis a vis professional photography, according to a release.

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Along with rest of the world Earth Day was observed by NEEPCO Ltd. at its Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project site at Yazali by organizing painting, slogan writing and quiz competitions on nature and environment among the school students at VKV NEEPCO, Yazali.
The Earth Day is observed worldwide every year to promote awareness and appreciation of the Earth and its natural environment to make it a better place to live, said Saamarjit Chakravarti, Head Of Project, RHEP.

Ban mask wearing in Capital: KLA
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Kameng Lawyers Association (KLA) today urged the district administration to ban on wearing mask in entire Capital Complex. While citing the recent attack on the office of Arunachal Times by masked miscreants, the KLA said masks are being misused to commit crimes.
Expressing concern over deteriorating law and order in the state particularly in Capital Complex, the KLA appealed to the chief minister to appoint full time home minister to tackle such issues tactfully. Association further threw its weight behind All East Kameng Students Union(AEKSU) in its fight to unearth the true behind the Seppa PHED water treatment plant(WTP) issue. It further condemned the alleged misusing of funds of Rs 9.18 crore without materializing the project. It also appealed to the newly constituted public account committee to examine the Seppa PHED water treatment plant. In a same line, KLA condemned the attack on the office of Arunachal Times.

At least 15 houses gutted down

ITANAGAR, Apr 22: At least 15 dwelling houses were gutted down in a major fire accident broke out at C sector near deputy commissioner office Naharlagun this afternoon.
Though there is no human casualty, more than 66 family members have been rendered homeless, informed said Capital DC Onit Panyang. The cause of the fire accident is yet to be ascertained. However, it is assumed that short circuit could be the reason, said Panyang.
The fire which broke out around 3:30 pm engulfed whole area within no time. However, the fire brigade rushed to the spot immediately and doused the fire before it engulfs the nearby houses. The total loss of property is yet to be assessed as the district administration is busy in rehabilitating the victims.

victims who have no relatives to take shelter are temporarily accommodated at community
hall near Rajiv Gandhi Stadium with help of local MLA Techi Kaso and executive engineer

Herd of elephant spotted in D Ering sanctuary
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Much to the joy of animal lovers and environmentalists, the D Ering Wildlife Sanctuary wardens spotted a herd of elephant numbering around 60 including their cubs in the sanctuary last evening, according to DFO Tashi Mize.
The arrival of elephants is presumed to be a good sign as their presence in the sanctuary

Press bodies react to CM’s statement
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) have expressed dismay over statement of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki wherein he said that “if the local media do not cooperate with Government of Arunachal and boycott its news from April 24, it would be reciprocal”.
In an emergency meeting held here in the office of Arunachal Press Club today, the members of APUWJ and APC sought an explanation from the CM on his statement. They wondered whether CM is threatening to stop government advertisements to those media houses which boycott Govt news from April 24 onwards.
They further doubted if Tuki is the same person who had promised to work for the growth of the media in the state when he took over the reins of the state.
Addressing the presspersons at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan two days ago, Tuki raised eyebrows with his controversial statement that “Arunachal Times (AT) Staffs instead of remaining mute spectators could have got hold of one of the miscreants who attacked the office of the daily.” APC and APWUJ stated that such kind of statement from the man holding the post of Chief Minister is very distressing to hear. Further objecting to the irresponsible statement of CM, the organizations said, “During the time of attack only 4 office members were present inside AT office. Around 8 masked youth had entered the office premises and dozens more were waiting outside. Most probably some of the youths might have been armed. In such a situation how can CM expect staff of AT to catch hold of the attackers? What if any staffs were physically injured, will the state government bear loss of life? No one wants to get gold medal posthumously,” APC and APUWJ said in a joint statement.

AAPSU can’t dictate term to Govt : APYC
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) president Tadar Niglar urged the All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union (AAPSU) to refrain from dictating terms to the state government.
“It is the prerogative of the state Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on when and how various portfolios will be distributed amongst ministers and what portfolios would be under his command,” the youth wing of the Congress party said in a release.
“APYC feels that the state government should be allowed to function freely under the ‘able and dynamic’ leadership of state Chief Minister,” the release said.

AdiSU demands action against LOU ED
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) demanded the Pasighat police to register a case against the executive director (ED) of Land Owner Union (LOU) and an employee of Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited for their alleged offence of criminal intimidation, illegal possession of arms and ammunitions and threatening a peaceful gathering with dire consequences.
A complaint against the Executive Director of LOU has been lodged at Pasighat Police Station on April 20 for the offence of criminal intimidation, illegal possession of arms and ammunitions, threatening etc., AdiSU said in a release. It threatened to knock the door of high court (HC) if the authority fails to register case against him. AdiSU which met at Pasighat today to discuss the incident aftermath of the Public Hearing for Lower Siang Hydro Power Project, which was canceled due to stiff opposition from public who do not want dam at Siang basin, claimed that the untoward incidences at Jeying camp was provoked and intimidated allegedly by the LOU executive director and the JE of Jaypee Arunachal Power Limited.
AdiSU further demanded the Government to scrap the 2700 MW Lower Siang Dam Project.
ITANAGAR, Apr 22: A cultural programme was organised by the Ladies Club of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli on April 20 in the Institute’s auditorium.
Besides songs, dances and poetry recitation there was also a short skit which highlighted some of the important and burning social issues.
Attending the programme, Padmashree awardee and Chairperson of Oju Welfare Association (OWA) Binni Yanga fondly remembered her long association with NERIST. She explored her journey as social worker after leaving her service as school teacher and later police officer.
Earlier, NERIST director Prof. Dipankar Pal expressed his deep gratitude to Yanga for her dedication and selfless service to the common people of Arunachal Pradesh. He applauded the enthusiasm of ladies club for organizing such a colourful show.
Lopamudra Pal, the patron of NERIST ladies club said that from now onwards NLC will try hard to be an active social organisation in this part of the state.
The programme enthralled the audience for about two hours.

It is a shame for us that large numbers of jobless youth are still deprived of vocational
and technical training facilities. Recently, I came to know that there is no any
equipment or facilities for soil testing at Regional Research laboratory unit, G-
Due to improper implementation of policy and program of the Govt, the people of the state are still unable to reap the benefit of Govt schemes. The state is lagging far behind in all kind of development such as employment generation, proper road connectivity, proper telecommunication facilities in interior areas due to poor implementation of the projects and schemes.
Many high profile dignitaries are found narrating their visit to foreign counties, but they never try to share their idea and experiences gained in foreign countries for the benefit of own people in the state. Govt sponsored foreign trips of the dignitaries are not at all helpful for the common masses. It is only wastage of public money on forieng tour.
Hence, through this article I would like to request the state govt. to establish more and more technological institutes in the state so that unemployed youths and farmers enhance their technical skill and launch self employment venture.

We want him out
Dear Editor,
I don't understand the stand of the present government regarding the transfer of present controversial Deputy Commissioner of West Siang district. His tenure in Arunachal has already been completed but he is still in the chair. During his tenure we have seen many ups and downs and his failure in everything. He has almost lost confidence of the people of West Siang. Presently his act pertaining to Malini Mela incident is also questionable and his continuation as Deputy Commissioner of Aalo is a great threat.
So may I request the present government led by Nabam Tuki to release him before another turmoil happens in the district.

Food subsidy initiative for hunger-
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced a new food subsidy initiative towards providing Afghanistan’s urban poor with guaranteed access to provisions despite the threat of food insecurity.
The project is designed to assist households in Kabul through a monthly cash voucher programme aimed at offsetting the impact high food prices have on the poor.
It is worth mentioning that this project was launched after the successful implementation of similar programmes in other Afghan cities earlier.
According to WFP, some 18,000 households – or an estimated 114,000 individuals – consisting mainly of poor women and households headed by people with disabilities will benefit from the project.
Each monthly voucher is worth $25 and can be exchanged for food items in participating local shops.
